Advice, processing, analysis and exploitation of gene expression data obtained through sequencing techniques.
Advice was obtained for both the design of the sequencing experiments and selection of libraries. Quality analyses were performed of the readings, filtering, alignment, counting, differential expression analysis and use of clustering methods. An analysis was also performed on the key components for the exploitation and interpretation of the results obtained. With the data mining strategy it was possible to identify the NR5A2 gene as one of the genes that increases the risk of developing pancreatic cancer. It also controls inflammation of normal tissue. These findings implied an important conceptual change, and helped better understand the origin of tumours. The results were published in the «Nature» magazine.
